Halloween Craft: Trick or Treat Door Hanger

You know we love a good burlap craft!  So today I'm going to share with you a Halloween Trick or Treat door hanger.  I'm not exactly sure how our love for burlap started but it's one of those great materials that is inexpensive, easy to work with and always looks good.  We hope you share our love ;)

What you'll need:
Candy Corn template (download here)
Burlap
Frog Tape (Chevron)
Mod Podge
Acrylic Paint
Silhouette Stencil (download here)
Twine
Sewing Machine
Brown Grocery Bags

{most of these products can be found in our Amazon store}

Start by cutting out 4 candy corn shapes from the template.  The candy corns measure 11 inches long by 10.5 inches wide.  You will have a front & back to each.   Spray the front 2 pieces with Mod Podge Clear Acrylic Sealer - this creates a barrier for the burlap so your paint doesn't get soaked up.   Allow the Mod Podge to dry for 24 hours.

Now section off three areas with your Chevron Frog Tape.  You need three colored areas just like candy corn: yellow, orange and white.  Paint each section with the corresponding color of acrylic paint.  (Top to bottom: yellow, orange & white)

Allow the paint to dry, then remove the Frog Tape.  Hopefully your lines are crisp and clean!

Now it's time for the stencil.  You have two options here, you can print a stencil on your Silhouette or cut it out by hand.  Download the Silhouette version here and the by hand version here.

*Note: The Silhouette Stencil will only open if you have the Silhouette Studio installed on your computer.*

I positioned my top candy corn a little slanted to the right.  You can do yours this way, place them side by side, or leave them free-standing from each other.  Any of these methods will look great!

Once you know how your candy corn will be positioned on the door, lay out the stencil.  I chose to paint my letters white and outline with black puff paint.   Allow the paint to completely dry (puff paint will take closer to 24 hours).

Now it's time to sew your candy corn front and back together.  *If you don't have a sewing machine, you can hot glue them together.*  Remember to add you twine hook to the top of the candy corn.  This is how you will hang it from the door.  Sew along the perimeter leaving a small opening to stuff.  Stuff your candy corns with brown grocery bags, about 8 each.  Close up the opening.  Now attach your candy corns together, I just attached them with sewing pins.

Hang on your door and admire from afar!
